i just noticed your post. i am from portland, oregon. so count me in also. i had posted a message on the orgon state chapter a while ago and have not had a single response yet. Inspite of the large numbers of members in seattle and portland areas, i too am sad to see to this kind of inactivity and non-response.
members from northwest (oregon, washington and idaho): This state chapter initiative is very important for our efforts. We are doing this for ourselves and I am pretty sure that these efforts will not harm your career or work in anyway. So, please do reply so that we could all get active and show that we in the Northwest can work for our situations and for iv's efforts in our own way.

I wonder if there are any provisions in there that can indirectly help our backlogs as well? Text of bill: http://www.aila.org/content/default.aspx?docid=22907
This has passed House and I was reading in Oh's site that President will sign it soon. Is it possible to throw in some indirect 485 backlog reduction provisions in there?
Oh's report:
07/17/2007: Passport Processing Meltdown to Receive Some Help from Retired Diplomats
Currently, the department is receiving more than 1 million passport applications a month and holds a backlog of about 500,000 that have been pending more than 10 weeks, instead of the usual six to eight The Senate passed S. 966 bill late last month to allow State to rehire retired Foreign Service employees to staff overwhelmed passport processing centers across the country. Retirees now have little incentive to return because current law cuts their salaries by the amount of their pensions. The House yesterday agreed to the Senate bill and passed it yesterday which is likely to grant the State Department the flexibility to rehire retired and fully trained passport processors on a temporary basis to help existing processors manage the increased demand. The President is likely to sign the quickly. Read on (http://www.govexec.com/story_page.cfm?articleid=37485&dcn=todaysnews) (http://www.govexec.com/story_page.cfm?articleid=37485&dcn=todaysnews).
Probably I am jumping the gun here but if I am not, hope this post won't hurt IV's agenda.

Hi
I got my visa H1B from employer X in the year 2003 and travelled to US in jan 2004 immigration officials denied my port of entry saying employer X is non-existent and cancelled my visa and told to with draw my application and they have written 212(a)(c)(i)(i) on my passport.I went back to my home country and worked over there for 3 yrs. After sometime i got an offer from some employer Y,they have filed for my H1B and approved.
When i went for visa to US Consulate visa officer told me that am ineligible for the H1B visa. I have explained them what exactly happened in 2004.
VisaOfficer has asked to appeal for waiver using the form I-601,after my appeal to the USCIS, consulate has given the visa.I came to US in 2007 and working for same employer B .I applied for extension under the same employer B,got an RFE asking to submit aggrement b/w the client and the vendor, the requested documents are sent. After that USCIS sent NOID(Notice of Intent to Deny),gave the reason as :
In January 2004 the beneficiay applied for admission as an H1 B Worker for company X.Under oath the beneficiary stated he never signed a contract with the petitioning company X,the petition company was found not to exist. Therefore, the beneficiary was found inadmissible under 212(A)(6)(C)(I) and 212(A)(7)(A)(I)(I) and permanently ineligible for the H1 Classification.
USCIS has again came back with the same issue of my previous H1 B.
I have been in US from 2007 June with employer Y ,after going through all the process in the year 2007 USCIS has issued my visa.
Please advice me on this, any help fully appreciated.
Thank you again for your anticipated cooperation in this matter.

Hi,
I just became unemployed (today) but I obtained my GC through employment about 2 years ago. I have some questions:
I am planning to spend about a week or 2 in Canada, will that cause me any problems when I come back to the US? I will keep job hunting in Canada but for a job in the US as I intend to stay in the US.
No. If you however plan to be outside US for more than 6 months, then you might need to take some precautions so that your green card is not invalidated.
Am I entitled to unemployment benefits since I have a GC?
Yes.
Will my layoff create any problems for me when I want to become a citizen of the US in about 3 years?
Thank you so much.
It will not.
In general, as a green card holder, you have all rights and all responsibilities (including going to war for US in case the congress institutes draft) of a U.S. citizen, except voting rights. See the welcome letter you received with your green card.

Hi All,
I have a strange issue, paining me since I have joined this new company, ( I am using AC21, since I am on EAD and AC21 is not yet filed). I am one of those unlucky fellows with really long name(First Name) stuck on my passport, and I have been using this all along, as my legal name while applying for visa/485 related activities. However, I go by the last part of the First Name and so all my other records here (like DL, SSN card, Bank Accounts, 401K account, etc) have got the last part of the First Name as my first name.My H1-B visa had the complete first name printed on it, and so I have been thinking, people could see that the name I have been using is in the last part of the complete First Name on the Visa and Passport.
However, in the EAD card, the name got cut(or incomplete) as the entire first name could not be printed on it. When I showed this to the new employer, they are using the name as displayed on the EAD card(which is not what I go by) in all the accounts they are establishing, like Paycheck, 401K info, ESPP etc.
Now I am in a soup, I have requested them to use the last part of the first name, which they are chcking with their immigration lawyers. But in the meanwhile, I want to know, does any one has this kind of problem. What should we do if the name is incomplete on the printed EAD card? (Ofcourse once I get GC, I would rather change this damn name)
Any one has any ideas?
Thanks

Hi guys.
I have been looking at several options on a new lens. I don't have a big budget to go out and buy the lens I really want, and looking around it seems that Olympus doesn't have a very wide selection of affordable lenses. I have an Olympus E-Volt 500, and I did see that I can get an adapter ring that would allow me to use any lens that will work with a Nikon Digital Camera. My question is....would using an adapter ring to use other brands of lenses detract from the quality of my images, and would it take away from the speed of the lens?
Thanks for the input.
Samantha

You can use AC21 because, 180 days is completed and you have approved 140 from employer A.
The amendment is to continue your green card process in employer B.
Note : employer A is old company.
employer B is new company.
I hope some of the senior people in this group can give you more correct information. Consider this information as my analysis, because I am also in the same boat.
Thanks.

Hi!
I am thinking of leaving my current employer & joining the primary vendor for the client, wondering if my employer can hold back last month's salary OR how people have handled such situations.
Thanks for your reply.

Send your petition to USCIS Ombudsman. This is a classic case of USCIS incompetence. They have all the documents and yet they pester you to provide the details.
