No way in hell. They've already asked their developers to change app resolutions once. 3 screen sizes will never fly with developers.
99.999% likelihood of this being total nonsense.
It is not necessary to change screen resolution to miniaturize the device. An iPad for example is the opposite of dense graphics to the degree shrinking it could maintain the same resolution even at 6-7" diagonal.
An "iPhone nano" could have the same screen resolution as an iPhone 3GS and be the size of a bit over an iPod nano. Like the current iPod Nano x2 or so.
I agree having too many resolutions is a problem, mainly for bit flipping applications like games and fixed I/O display apps.
In all these years true screen size independence has not happened, so I am not holding my breath now either, since Apple has been dumbing down or crippling the CPU, graphics, and memory.
Whatever China wants is what Apple is making. Yes Verizon will have LTE/CDMA handsets, but AT&T will have LTE/GSM handsets and will maintain market dominance where their service does not have holes. Verizon will exploit captured clients and areas where AT&T service is lacking.
Once LTE is turned on the entire estimate where those zones are will change because the easiest way for AT&T to poach Verizon clients is to offer what they want. LTE/something slower, modern handsets, post-sale service.
Verizon customer service is widely hated.

Sorry but health care is paid by your health care taxes, that come off your gross income. You don't pay those at the gas station!
What makes gas prices in the EU that high are VAT (which is considerably higher in the EU) and energy taxes.
The eco taxes you mentioned are actually only a small part of the energy taxes (they were introduced to reduce CO2 emissions and to decrease the taxes for annuity insurance). Who knows where the rest of the energy tax goes...
Actually, it's 43.3% plus VAT in Germany.
If the gas price is 1.50€, the gas itself is worth 0.61€, 0.65€ are eco taxes, plus 19% VAT of both gas and tax makes 1.50€.
And "healthcare and other nice things" are arguable, that's why I took it out. However, as mentioned, no one knows where the money goes, as you would use it 100% to build walls to decrease noise pollution and plant trees for CO2 neutrality, you'd have a lot of walls and trees. However, the money has to go anywhere, and I doubt that it has anything to do with cars or their emissions at all.
The reason for this kind of tax is really strange though: In the eyes of the politicians, oil was too cheap, and they know that it's limited - the prices will rise and at some point will gas will be not cheap enough. Here's the hilarious point: They put the tax on top of the oil price so "smoothen" the raise and are investing this tax into the development of cars that consume less gasoline.
Car manufacturers came up with that during the oil crisis in the 70ies themselves. And now I have to fund them by paying them as much as I pay the Sheik who delivers the oil.
I mean, did anyone pay Chevrolet to develop and build the Volt? No, and they did anyways.
Edit: It might not be health care, but look at this:
http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/2234/screenshot20110429at114.png
Year/Income from the eco tax in millions of Euro/That went into federal retirement assicuration/that funded renewable energies.
Well, might not be healthcare. I mostly pay grandpa's retirement though: And this should be considered as the one of the "other nice things".

It is surely embarrassing for Apple that a 3rd party developer can write an app that will download and upload from the iDisk far faster than their own Finder.
If I'm going to iDisk, I use Transmit. Otherwise it's not worth it.
I'm in no hurry. Would rather not buy Transmit. iDisk is incredibly slow, but no skin off my back (I don't use it too much). Interesting to learn that it is the application, and not something inherently sluggish on the host end.

The difference here is Samsung settled. With $1billion at stake, Apple will likely fight this to the end. And with countersuits on the line, this will get ugly.

I know really. I could see the tagline now:

Yea, kinda cheesy, but you get the idea. :)

Like a touchpad wouldn't it be possible for it to recognize what is a tap and what is just touching to the surface? i.e. it would only initiate a command based on a quick touch and release.

I ran the update for this today and I am getting no notifications at all even though they are all turned on in the settings.

Is this an extra MacBook model in addition to the other MacBooks?
If so, then maybe it is a MacBook with discrete graphics, but still 13.3". I.e., something between the MacBook and the MacBook Pro. It might be replacing the current Black MacBook which isn't a great deal for what you get.
Otherwise it's a redesign to address all the current MacBook issues, and will be used across the range.
Merom may come to the original MacBook sooner, but it's pretty much guaranteed that this MacBook will utilise it.

i had been expecting something huge like this to come out today... and i'm expecting bigger still...
Right on! Apple is going to mitigate the media flurry around the Zune. "Brownie, you are doing a heck of a job..."
how long till somebody makes an adaptor for the zune to make use of the apple dock connector?
That does get to the heart of the matter doesn't it. The airlines and auto manufactures, and heck the audio industry is not going to want to support multiple interfaces... Will there be a standard? HA! Fat chance. Adapters - maybe. I need the zune to iPod dock port dongle... Wait, I won't need one - I'm a podder.

Really nice for the schools.
I disagree, very very small discount
Apple should have extended the full education discount of 14% to students. As much as I love Apple's products, they're very much an overly greedy company these days. They're also possibly being myopic, as students are highly likely to buy content for the device IMO
Very shameful Apple

Sounds great to me! Did anyone here anything about Zune intergration in planes? I didn't think so. :p
It still amazes me that so many cars in the US are iPod friendly. Now the skies are becoming iPod friendly, too! Next stop, the space shuttle.
Well, let's see... the Zune comes out today. The iPod has been out for about 5 years (?) now. So it took Apple 5 years to have them integrate with airplanes. Shame on Apple for not innovating quicker. Shame, shame, shame. And shame on MS for not innovating quicker too. The Zune's only been out, what,... a few hours and it still can't integrate with planes? Shame on MS.
Seriously.... what's with all this Zune bashing? This story isn't even about the Zune, yet someone just had to post something about it. I'm not defending MS or anyone. It's just that I get's pretty redundant when everyone praises Apple and bashes on everyone else (especially MS), like Apple can do no wrong. I bet you haven't even played with a Zune yet. It's like people who say they don't like Japanese food or something. And when asked if they've tried it, they say no. How the hell do you know whether you like somethinig or not when you haven't even tried it yet?
Apple fan boys......

It would be pretty bad ass if the entire screen worked as a button (like the trackpad) so you can go home. You tap the screen to select something or click the screen to go home. :-D
That would be cool!

- No iCal integration with a fully editable calendar
Agreed! That calendar thing really bothers me. Also, whenever you do publish calendars, it doesn't show the location of the event! That's REALLY annoying. I have to put it in the notes box in order to view it online. I actually recently emailed .mac feedback about that. Pain in the butt!

That is hiding specs from people that would really like to know. That is the people who read the spec sheets and have good reason to do so. Little things add up be it the RAM in an iPhone/iPad, what the SD slot is capable of or any of a number of other devices that are poorly speced on the machine. cards.
Ram in the iPhone/ipad and is not particularly important to anyone but developers. It is what it is. It is not useful to compare RAM in an iPhone to RAM in an EVO (for example).
The Tech Spec says SD Slot, I am not sure why it needs to go into any detail in the marketing material. This is a case where it would clearly confuse customers, most of whom just want to know if there SD card will work in the system. It is easy enough to find every minute hardware detail on an OSX system, anyone who needs to know can find out easy enough.
Apple is not hiding anything, they are just presenting a meaningful message.

Definitely my favorite thus far, amongst many excellent interpretations of the challenge theme. The neon glow of the keyboard backlight really makes this pop, and I like the angled composition.

This one I'm not too sure how it communicates the challenge theme (assuredly more my lack of insight and interpretation than the photo) but more distracting to me is the overexposure of the foreground flower. Was this exposed with the in-camera meter? I find a lot of over-exposure problems when using the camera meter, so I usually use an incident meter, or a spot-meter - or else I bracket with a specific intention of some low-value captures. I find that recovering slightly under-exposed images easier in digital than I do hot or over-exposed images. Just my limited experience - your mileage may vary.
OK, my own submission for this challenge. With the utmost apologies to JD, I had to stick with the apples & oranges theme which is what had immediately occurred to me when we set this topic. I've tried to expand on the conceptual interpretation of apples & oranges with some more technical interpretations - a split b & w background, and an over-saturated and high contrast post treatment.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to change what you said or anything, I was just using what you said (that the list would become quite long) as a reason for why we should reduce the total amount of articles by merging articles wherever possible.
I'm not sure that reducing category sizes is a good reason to merge articles. We shouldn't do anything that makes it harder to find something within an article once you're there, especially since categories are just one way to find articles - in fact, just 2% of page views in the Guides (of actual content pages, excluding things like the search page) are for viewing one of the root level categories.
They're split off from the main software category because of the perception that a lot of users may not want to look at the Terminal... it does reduce the amount of articles in the main software category.
I wasn't the one who created the Terminal Commands category, but I'd be very surprised if that was the reason it was created. Again, these articles are in a different category because it's a logical grouping - no different to similar categories such as Games and Networking and Internet Software. As someone who uses the Terminal extensively, I find it much more useful this way.
